Weed Commissioner / Roadside Vegetation Manager
FULL TIME POSITION OPENING
WEED COMMISSIONER / ROADSIDE VEGETATION MANAGER
DEFINITION
Under supervision of the Iowa County Engineer, the Roadside Vegetation Manager shall administer, develop, plan, and conduct a program of vegetative habitat management that seeks to control unwanted vegetation and promote desirable vegetation on Iowa County right-of-way and public drainage ditches and perform related duties as assigned by the Board of Supervisors in consultation and cooperation with the County Engineer and County Conservation Director.
DUTIES
The Roadside Vegetation Manager shall serve as Iowa County Weed Commissioner and will address the provisions of Section 314 of the Code of Iowa, the IRVM Manual and Section 317, the Noxious Weed Law. The following are a list of duties that are required but not limited to:
- Identify and Control Noxious Weeds.
- Maintain a valid pesticide applicator’s license in Category 2, 5, 6, 1A
- Develop and Implement a “Iowa Roadside Management Plan” for Iowa County
- Seed, Trim and mulch Trees, Hydroseed, etc.
- Daily Record Keeping
- Fill out “Iowa Weed Commissioner’s Annual Report”
- Report to Board of Supervisors.
- Maintain MSDS and lock-out-tag-out standards for all chemicals.
- Order and purchase seed, chemicals, bales, chainsaws, mulch, etc.
- Use hand tools, chainsaws, bale shredder, mulcher, seeder, and other power equipment.
- Keep site, tools, & equipment clean and orderly.
- Perform routine maintenance on vehicles.
- Assist with snow removal when needed.
- May be required to work after hours during snow and emergency events.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Abilities to understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
- Operate Heavy Equipment, including Hydroseeder
- Routinely lift 75 lbs.,
- Ability to interpret regulations;
- Ability to perform moderate manual labor for extended period under adverse weather conditions;
- Ability to maintain accurate records;
- Ability to work with computers (ie, Internet, Excel, Word, Iowa Co. GIS).
OTHER
- Must be Legal U.S. Citizen, have valid Driver’s License, valid CDL Class B, and clean driving record,
- Able to obtain valid pesticide applicator’s license in Categories 2, 5, 6, 1A within 3 months.
- Position will be based out of: Yardsite Shop along I-80
- Regular Hours are: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday thru Friday.
- Job Classification Pay: $33.62
