The Iowa County Recorder’s Office is a passport acceptance facility for the US Department of State Federal Passport Agency. Our Passport Agent, Lynn Gahring, can assist US Citizens who meet the passport application requirements with obtaining a US Passport Book or Passport Card.

Passport Requirements

The following must be submitted with your passport application:

1. Evidence of citizenship

You (or your parent/guardian) must present one of the following to the acceptance agent:

  • A certified copy of your birth certificate and/or previous passport (will be returned by mail). The birth certificate must be issued by the state or the county, NOT the hospital.
  • Naturalization Certificate (will be returned by mail)
  • Expired, (Adult-10yr), Passport (will be returned by mail)

2. Two identical passport photos

  • The Recorder's Office does take passport photos for $15.00. (Please do not wear white, grey, neon, camouflage, or a service uniform.)
  • Photos must be 2 x 2 inch size

3. Personal Identification

You (or your parent/guardian) must present one of the following IDs to the acceptance agent:

  • In-state, fully valid driver's license
  • Fully valid, undamaged U.S. passport (may be expired)
  • Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship (if the photo still looks like you)
  • Government employee ID (city, county, state, or federal)
  • U.S. military ID or military dependent ID
  • Valid foreign passport
  • Matricula Consular (Mexican Consular Identification, commonly used by the parent of a U.S. citizen child
  • applicant)

Please note: 

  • Some states now issue digital ID documents (also known as mobile driver's licenses or mobile IDs). We cannot accept these digital IDs when you apply for your U.S. passport. You must continue to submit your physical photo ID and a photocopy of the ID.
  • If you present an out-of-state ID, you must present an additional ID.

    $211.36 with Expedite fee ($60.00) and Express Mail fee ($21.36)

  • $100.00 Check/money order to "U.S. Department of State"
    $181.36 with Expedite fee ($60.00) and Express Mail fee ($21.36)

Express Mail

You may request the application be mailed by Express Mail. Postage to mail your application for processing will be $30.45 payable to the U.S. Postmaster.
